Moon Knight is one of the latest Marvel shows to debut on Disney+, featuring Oscar Isaac as the titular hero with multiple personalities. The first season of the show introduced fans to the complex and mysterious world of Marc Spector, a former mercenary who becomes the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
The show also featured Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, a cult leader and Moon Knight’s nemesis, as well as May Calamawy as Marlene Alraune, a museum curator and Marc’s love interest.
The first season of Moon Knight ended with a cliffhanger, as Marc and his alter ego Steven Grant managed to free themselves from Khonshu’s control, only to discover that there was a third personality, Jake Lockley, who was still under the god’s influence.
Jake, who was revealed to be the one who killed Harrow in the post-credits scene, also seemed to have a connection to a mysterious woman named Gina.
So, will there be a second season of Moon Knight? And if so, what can fans expect from it? Here’s everything we know so far about Moon Knight season 2.
Will There Be a Moon Knight Season 2?
Officially, Marvel Studios has not confirmed that Moon Knight will continue with a second season. However, there have been some hints and rumors that suggest that the show is not over yet.
For one thing, Marvel Studios accidentally tweeted that the last episode of the first season was the “series finale” of Moon Knight, before deleting the tweet and replacing it with “season finale”.
This could imply that the show is indeed planned to have more than one season, or at least that Marvel is considering the possibility.
Another clue comes from Oscar Isaac himself, who said in an interview with ComicBook.com that he had “some specific conversations” with Marvel about the future of his character, although he did not reveal any details.
He also said that he was open to returning as Moon Knight, either in another season or in a movie. “I love the character, I love the world, I love the people I worked with,” he said. “So, yeah, I would love to keep exploring it.”
Director Mohamed Diab also seemed confident that Moon Knight would return, and not just on the big screen. In a video shared in September 2022, he and Isaac teased that season 2 was in the works, when asked why they were in Cairo, Egypt. “Why else would we be in Cairo?” Isaac said.
One rumor indicated that season 2 of Moon Knight was set to come at some point before Avengers 5, which now gives the show almost three full years to return after Avengers 5 was delayed until May 1, 2026.
Moon Knight Season 2 Release Date
Assuming that Moon Knight does get a second season, it will most likely be a while until it premieres on Disney+, given the busy schedule of Marvel’s upcoming shows and movies.
The next two years are set to bring Loki season 2, Echo, Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Ironheart, and more, while other shows like Wonder Man and Secret Invasion could also debut in that time frame.
Therefore, the earliest possible release date for Moon Knight season 2 would be sometime in 2025, unless Marvel decides to fast-track the production.
Moon Knight Season 2 Cast
If Moon Knight season 2 happens, it will surely bring back Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley/Moon Knight, the hero with multiple personalities. It will also likely feature May Calamawy as Marlene Alraune, Marc’s love interest and ally, who learned about his condition in the first season.
Other possible returning cast members include Alexander Siddig as Bertrand Crawley, Marc’s friend and mentor, and Gaspard Ulliel as Jean-Paul DuChamp, aka Frenchie, Marc’s former partner and Marlene’s brother.
As for new cast members, one possibility is Dina Shihabi as Gina, the mysterious woman who appeared in the post-credits scene and seemed to have a relationship with Jake. Gina is a character from the comics, who was a cab driver and a friend of Jake.
Another possibility is Ramy Youssef as Dr. Peter Alraune, Marlene’s father and a prominent archaeologist, who was mentioned but not seen in the first season.
Dr. Alraune was the one who discovered the statue of Khonshu and was killed by mercenaries, leading to Marc’s resurrection as Moon Knight.
Moon Knight Season 2 Spoilers
The plot of Moon Knight season 2 will likely explore the consequences of the first season’s finale, as Marc and Steven have to deal with the fact that they are not free of Khonshu and that Jake is still under his control.
Jake, who is also Moon Knight, could pose a threat to Marc and Steven, as well as to Harrow’s followers, who might seek revenge for their leader’s death. Marc and Steven will also have to face their own inner demons, as they struggle with their identity and mental health.
Another plot point that could be explored in season 2 is the origin and nature of Khonshu, the moon god who chose Marc as his avatar. In the first season, Khonshu was portrayed as a manipulative and ruthless deity, who wanted to use Marc to bring about a new world order.
However, in the comics, Khonshu has a more complex and ambiguous personality, sometimes being benevolent and protective of Marc, and sometimes being cruel and demanding of him. Khonshu also has a history with other gods and cosmic entities, such as the Egyptian pantheon, the Eternals, and the Phoenix Force, which could be explored in the show.
Finally, season 2 of Moon Knight could also introduce some connections to the wider MCU, as the show is set to expand the supernatural and mystical side of the franchise.
Moon Knight could cross paths with other heroes and villains who deal with magic and the occult, such as Doctor Strange, Blade, Ghost Rider, and the Midnight Sons. Moon Knight could also have a role in the upcoming Avengers 5, as he is a member of the team in the comics.
